Christian Joseph has been designing clothes since 2017. His career as a designer has gone hand in hand with his career as a scientist developing new sustainable fashion materials such as seaweed fibers and bacteria leather. 

His designs have implemented sustainable practices such as natural dyeing and reusing old fabrics. In addition to sustainability, central themes of Joseph’s work include politics and philosophy. For example the bags pictured from the In the Ashes of Bombs collection reuse sleeping bags from the Vietnam War addressing issues of sustainability and imperialism. Also pictured are garments from the Functionalizing Ornament collection which use techniques such as natural dyeing.

As a Creative Entrepreneur, Joseph hopes to learn more from the community SoHarlem has to offer.
