Andres Biel: Crafting the Pulse of the Street with IFLYUNIVERSE

Andres Biel's remarkable journey began as a teenager learning to sew on an antique machine at the Henry Street Settlement House, guided by Ruth Taube. He expanded his knowledge through YouTube and TV shows, eventually earning his GED and creating his debut collection, "Rebirth," for Harlem Fashion Week. This collection, a visual narrative of his design journey, won the Emerging Designers Competition and the award was presented by Misa Hylton.

This achievement led to a Design Apprenticeship at SoHarlem from 2019-2021, where he further developed his craftsmanship. Now, we're proud to welcome him back as our Guest Artist, and to celebrate his brand, IFLYUNIVERSE. As Creative Director, Biel creates high-end streetwear that challenges conventions with bold designs, innovative fabrics, and unique color palettes. He describes IFLYUNIVERSE as "storytelling, community, and creativity. It's the pulse of the street."

Biel's subsequent collections, Miami Nights, Universal Light, and Goddess, continue to build on the vision of "Rebirth."

His story comes full circle as he now teaches at the Henry Street Settlement, where Ruth Taube, his first mentor, began his career.

From SoHarlem to the Runway: In 2020, Andres developed his Miami Collection at SoHarlem. Four years later, his models showcased pieces from his Golden Era Collection at SoHarlem's Inaugural Fashion Show.
