NEW YORK, November 30, 2023 — SoHarlem is excited to announce its 2023 Holiday Fashion Celebration featuring the fashion and home décor creations of the SoHarlem Designers and Apprentices. The 2023 Holiday Fashion Celebration will take place on Thursday, December 7, 2023, from 5:00PM to 7:00PM EST, at the SoHarlem Designers’ Studio, 1361 Amsterdam Ave, at West 126th Street, Suite 340, New York. SoHarlem serves as an incubator for fashion designers, and a training resource for the residents of the Harlem community. “Our mission is to support racial equity and employment in Harlem by incubating creative enterprises that incorporate sustainable business models,” notes CEO and Founder Janet Rodriguez. Over the past twelve years, SoHarlem has launched more than 20 successful micro-businesses including everything from custom-made, couture garments to fashion accessories and home décor. SoHarlem has been part of the transformation of the once underutilized Manhattanville Factory District into a growing business community employing residents. SoHarlem’s Creative Economy Training Institute is open to under- and unemployed Harlem residents, at no cost to them. Participants receive workforce training on the fundamentals of sewing to prepare them to work in the fashion industry. Henry Smith, SoHarlem’s Principal Trainer and Creative Entrepreneur, also offers sewing classes to the public on Saturdays. SoHarlem offers Tailoring and Made to Measure services to the public and designers year-round. These services begin with a consultation between the client and SoHarlem to decide exactly the type of service needed. Since it’s always fashion week at SoHarlem, visitors are welcome to stop by the Designers Studio from Monday through Thursday: 10:00am to 4:00pm and Saturday: 12 noon to 4:00pm (Friday & Sundays SoHarlem is closed).
